ECCO was founded in 1963 in Bredebro in southern Denmark, close to the German border. The founders Birte and Karl Toosbuy started to produce ladies’ fashion shoes under the name “Venus”.

The well-known moccasin ECCO JOKE was introduced in 1978, and was a turning point for the ECCO Brand. …to more than 21,000 employees worldwide with 60 different nationalities.

ECCO shoes are sold in 90 countries. Among the world’s Top-5 producer of premium leather to luxury brands.

The majority (~18,400) of ECCO’s workforce works in production. Amongst ECCO’s emerging markets are Latin America and India. ECCO opened a sales office in Panama in 2016.

Headquarters: Global management, design, product development, administration and other corporate functions are located in Denmark.

Global Sales: Global sales management is based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. From here, regional sales for Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Russia are also managed.

Global Leather: ECCO Leather headquarters are in Dongen, The Netherlands, where ECCO also has a tannery for luxury leathers.

Portugal Production: The factory in Portugal recently reopened and is now being built up to house four DIP machines and one stitching line. ECCO also carries out research and development here.

Slovakia Production: ECCO’s Slovakian shoe factory has five DIP machines and two stitching lines.

China Production: ECCO’s Chinese Tannery and shoe factory in Xiamen has four DIP machines and 18 stitching lines. Along with the tannery, it is located in Xiamen, and ECCO’s global sourcing office is in Dongguan.

Vietnam: Shoe production

Asia Pacific: China Holding production and ECCO’s sales in the Asia Pacific region are managed from Singapore. The employees are spread across the region.

Thailand Production: ECCO’s tannery and Thai shoe factory has 4 DIP machines and 14 stitching lines – with plans to expand to 20 lines. It was rebuilt after the flooding in 2011. It is located in Ayutthaya with a tannery.

Indonesia Production: ECCO’s tannery and largest shoe factory has seven DIP machines and 48 stitching lines. The adjacent tannery was completely renovated in 2013.

Americas: ECCO’s sales in USA and Canada are managed from Boston. USA is ECCO’s largest market.

Unique to the industry, ECCO owns and manages every aspect of the value chain from tanneries and shoe manufacturing to wholesale and retail activities. ECCO’s products are sold in 90 countries from over 2,200 ECCO shops and more than 14,000 sales points. ECCO is family-owned, founded in Denmark in 1963, and employs more than 21,000 people worldwide.
